Ukraine and Hungary agree on the opening of a new border crossing point
The press service of the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry has announced that Ukraine and Hungary have agreed on the possibility of opening a new border crossing point called Velyka Palady - Nagygodos for passenger vehicles. The possibility for empty trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes to pass through the Luzhanka - Beregszuran checkpoint was also agreed.
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, responsible for renewal issues, Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov and Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Heizer Antala signed the relevant amendments to the agreement between the governments on border traffic management.
Oleksandr Kubrakov said that the signed amendments to the agreement with Hungary allow to start planning works on the design and development of infrastructure for the opening of a new border crossing point "Velyka Palady - Nagygodos", as well as to ensure the possibility of movement of empty trucks through "Luzhanka". In addition, the possibility of building a new freight border crossing point "Dijda - Berehdarots" is being considered in order to increase capacity on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.
After signing the amendments to the agreement, it is necessary to carry out the process of ratification of the project. The Ministry of Infrastructure stressed that there are 5 automobile checkpoints on the border with Hungary. Nevertheless, only the Chop-Zakhon checkpoint has the ability to allow trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes to pass through.
