Houthis attacked ships in the Indian Ocean
Over the weekend, the Houthis announced an expansion of their actions, claiming that their main target was the seizure of three ships, one of which was in the Indian Ocean. Security experts have not confirmed the attacks, which may indicate that the Houthis may have exaggerated the number of their maritime attacks over a six-month period.
According to the Houthis, they fired missiles at Borealis Maritime's Hope Island, as well as Mediterranean Shipping Company's MSC Gina and the 24,300-tonne MSC Grace F. These vessels were in three different areas - the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
If these cases are confirmed, the geography of the attacks will expand significantly. However, preliminary reports indicate that none of the vessels were damaged. Vespucci Maritime CEO Lars Jensen said, "Attention should be drawn to the allegation of attacks on ships in the Arabian Sea, which geographically is the northern part of the Indian Ocean, as well as in the Indian Ocean. If confirmed, this would mean an expansion of the risk area, which now also includes routes to key container ports on the south coast of Oman as well as routes to the Strait of Hormuz."
