Another reduction in tariffs for container transportation between Asia and Europe

Spot tariffs for container transportation from Asia to Europe began to decline again last week. The same trend was observed on routes across the Pacific Ocean between Asia and North America. Experts say that the past few weeks have brought some optimism to the maritime transportation market. After a relatively unprofitable 2023, they finally began to see a gradual increase in container shipping rates. However, this optimism did not last long. It is still too early to make definitive predictions, but it is already clear that the supply chain disruptions caused by the situation in the Red Sea are not so serious as to force a change in the direction of the market as a whole. It is currently difficult to say whether shipping companies will be able to maintain the additional surcharges to tariffs that have been actively introduced over the past period.
According to the Xeneta XSI index, sea freight from Asia to Northern Europe decreased by 2% last week to 4733 USD/40'DV.
The WCI Drewry index for routes from Asia to the Mediterranean Sea decreased by 8% to 5848 USD/40'DV.
At the same time, the cost of shipping a 40-foot container from Asia to the West Coast of the United States increased by 2% to 4421 USD, while the rates for delivery to the East Coast remained unchanged at 6165 USD.
