Conditions and peculiarities of plant transportation
Transportation of plants implies creation of a special microclimate imitating natural growing conditions.
- For most ornamental crops we maintain a temperature range of +15...+22°C, air humidity 60-80%.
- When transporting tropical species, we provide higher values: temperature up to +25°C, humidity up to 90%.
- For conifers, on the contrary, we set a cooler regime: +5...+15°C with moderate humidity.
We pay special attention to protection against sharp temperature changes that cause physiological stress. We use buffer zones when loading in cold seasons, gradually adapting plants to the transportation regime. Use thermal insulating materials to protect the root system, which is most sensitive to chilling. When transporting large plants with an open root system, we use temporary treatment with root stimulants to reduce stress.
What types of plants the company transports
Indoor and potted plants
We organize the delivery of seedlings of ornamental plants for greenhouses, winter gardens, office spaces. We provide transportation of indoor plants with minimal stress thanks to special shock-absorbing fasteners. We transport collectors' specimens, rare species with observance of individual requirements to microclimate.
Cut flowers
We carry out transportation of fresh flowers in special containers with nutrient solution that prolongs freshness. We provide a temperature regime of +2...+5°C for most cut flowers, slowing down the wilting process. When performing live cargo logistics, we maintain strict humidity control to prevent the development of pathogens.
Planting material
We ship plants from abroad: seeds, bulbs, cuttings, seedlings for commercial crop production. We ensure compliance with quarantine requirements necessary for transportation of seedlings across the border. We transport seeds with humidity control to prevent premature germination.
Large trees and garden trees
We organize container transportation of large plants for landscape construction: trees, shrubs with a lump of earth. We use specialized transport with reduced loading height to minimize the inclination of trunks. We provide fixation of the earth clod to preserve the integrity of the root system.
Types of transport for plant transportation
Specialized vans
We use vehicles with isothermal body equipped with microclimate maintenance systems. We use refrigerated trucks for transportation of flowers to maintain a stable temperature throughout the route. We use transport with sectional division for simultaneous transportation of plants with different climatic requirements. We control the work of ventilation systems in refrigerated transportation to ensure the necessary gas exchange, prevent the accumulation of ethylene. We provide freight forwarding.
Air transport
We organize urgent delivery and customs control of perishable vegetable cargo:
- cut flowers;
- cuttings;
- seedlings with an open root system.
We use special air containers with thermoregulation, protection from depressurization. We provide accelerated passage of phytosanitary control at airports.
Sea transportation
We use transportation of flowers by motor transport with temperature control to the port, further - by specialized refrigerated containers on ships. We provide continuous monitoring of climatic parameters in sea containers.
Rail transport
We use specialized refrigerated wagons for transportation of large consignments of planting material. We provide autonomous power supply for climate control systems along the entire route.
How the price for plant transportation is formed
The cost of services for the transportation of plants by a transportation company is made up of several major components. The basic factor is the specifics of plant material:
- species composition;
- dimensions
- weight;
- peculiarities of storage and transportation of agricultural products.
We use different technological solutions for different groups of plants: from simple isothermal vans for unpretentious crops to high-tech climatic chambers for exotic species.
A significant role is played by the geography of transportation:
- range;
- climatic crossing zones;
- number of transit points.
For international transportation we include expenses for phytosanitary inspection, registration of permit documentation. For countries with special quarantine requirements we additionally include time and money for possible testing, fumigation, temporary quarantine storage. The total price is also affected by the cost of customs brokerage services.
Seasonality has a significant impact on pricing.
- In winter, heating and frost protection costs increase.
- In summer, the costs of air conditioning and protection against overheating increase.
- In the off-season it is necessary to take into account sharp temperature fluctuations that require more careful control of the microclimate.
Additional services form the final cost: special packaging, intermediate storage, refrigerated transportation, phytosanitary monitoring on the way, plant cargo insurance. We provide the opportunity to choose different levels of service: from basic with a minimum set of services to premium with individual support of biologist-curator on the whole route.
Process of transportation of indoor plants
Transportation of indoor plants begins with careful preparation. 2-3 days before transportation by titl truck or refrigerator we stop watering to reduce the mass of soil clod, reduce the risk of rot development on the way. For large specimens, we carry out preliminary pruning, crown formation for compact placement in the transport. Eliminate damaged, weakened parts of plants serving as potential sources of infections.
Immediately before loading, we carry out preventive treatment against pests and pathogens. Pots are placed in plastic bags with perforations to retain moisture and protect them from contamination. Protect the above-ground part with breathable materials: paper, mesh sleeve, synthetic fiber. For tall plants we use support structures to prevent the stems from breaking during transportation.
In the cargo compartment we place plants taking into account their size and microclimate requirements.
- Heavy specimens are placed on the lower shelves.
- Light ones are placed on the upper ones.
- Pots are fixed between each other, excluding displacement during movement, braking.
During transportation, maintain the specified microclimate parameters, if necessary illuminate light-loving species. On long routes we make technical stops to check the condition and adjust the fixing. Upon arrival we organize gradual adaptation to new conditions: we keep plants in an intermediate room, gradually increase illumination, change temperature to target values.
Guarantees for the client
Save Pro Solutions provides full responsibility for the condition of plants during transportation. We document the initial condition of each specimen, guarantee the preservation of marketable appearance and biological viability.
