Poland doesn't plan to stop transit of Ukrainian agricultural products
The Polish Agriculture Ministry has not asked the government to stop the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products. This information was provided in the ministry's announcement following a meeting between Minister Czeslaw Seckerski and farmers' representatives, consultations at the level of the Polish and Ukrainian agriculture ministers, as well as at the intergovernmental level.
The ministry believes that many of the agreements signed with the protesting farmers have already been substantially fulfilled. In particular:
- Following the farmers' protests and the intervention of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as the agreements between Prime Minister Tusk and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission has abandoned many points of the Green Deal. Protesting farmers should recognise this as satisfactory.
- Rules to assist cereal producers (cereal subsidies of PLN 200/t and PLN 300/t) have been adopted. The approval process is ongoing.
- The embargo on imports from Ukraine of cereals, maize, rapeseed, sunflower, flour and cake remains in place.
- Work continues to maintain the level of agricultural tax at the 2023 level.
- Due to the fact that the Ukrainian side declared minimal restrictions on the transit of its agricultural products through Poland from April to June this year, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture did not request to stop the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through Poland.
