Transport companies in Poland are in crisis
In the first quarter of 2024, the number of bankruptcies of Polish commercial enterprises increased. Many companies also announced restructuring. According to these data, in three months, 1,166 companies declared themselves bankrupt, which is 10% more than in the corresponding period in 2023. Experts say that especially many business bankruptcies occurred in the transport industry.
An event of bankruptcy was usually accompanied by an increase in the number of layoffs, but even large international companies that have been successfully operating on the Polish market for a long time and are not yet on the verge of bankruptcy are forced to lay off workers.
Experts point out that one of the reasons for the current situation is the increase in the minimum wage in the country. This administrative action also led to a decrease in production volumes in many industries.
Why did trucking companies suffer losses? There are several factors that caused this situation: an increase in the cost of driver salaries, an increase in fuel prices, and a decrease in the number of customers. According to analysts, those carriers that primarily relied on the spot market experienced the greatest threat.
However, experts advise not to despair. They believe the situation could improve in the next quarter as the economic contraction of last year is already easing.
