Oversized tanks for industrial facilities

We transport the tank as a manufactured item: a steel water tank, fuel storage tank, process vessel or another agreed unit. For horizontal and vertical models, the shell shape, material, fitted components and permitted handling method determine the approach. If the vessel is supplied with pumps, pipework or other assemblies, we coordinate its delivery as part of an industrial equipment shipment.
Capacity in cubic metres does not replace shipping dimensions
Two tanks with the same capacity may require different vehicles. Diameter, length, supports, nozzles, manways, ladders and insulation all affect how a unit can be positioned. Capacity helps identify the product, but a quotation requires the external dimensions and weight of the tank as prepared for shipment.
A dimensioned drawing or sketch and photographs from several angles are useful starting points. The weight of transport supports, packaging and components travelling with the shell should also be stated. If fittings are removed, the documentation and quotation must reflect the actual shipping configuration.
We also assess the final dimensions and loads of the vehicle combination once the tank is positioned on its supports and trailer. A large diameter can make route planning complex even when the unit is relatively light. Transport orientation, support saddles and shell protection
A tank designed to operate upright cannot automatically be transported on its side. The permitted transport orientation must follow the manufacturer’s documentation or an approved technical solution. Changing orientation simply to reduce height can introduce loads that the shell and internal components were not designed to withstand.
Saddles are supports shaped to accommodate the vessel. Their dimensions, positions and load limits must suit the specific unit. Before dispatch, the parties agree who supplies them, whether they remain with the consignee and how they affect overall shipping dimensions. Qualified personnel agree the lifting and securing arrangements; the purpose of lifting lugs or other fittings should not be inferred from appearance alone.
Painted shells, stainless steel surfaces, cladding and insulation need appropriate protection at contact points. Nozzles, flanges, instruments and projections must be considered in the packing and positioning plan. Protecting the shell’s geometry and surface finish is part of preparing the cargo for transport.
Matching the trailer to the tank
Where overall loaded height is a limiting factor, we consider low-loader transport. A low deck may provide the necessary height clearance, but the decision also depends on support positions, unit weight and usable deck length.
For a vessel that can be accommodated on an open deck with suitable supports, flatbed transport may be appropriate. A long shell requires assessment of its support arrangement and the trailer’s usable length; an extendable configuration may be considered where necessary. The final selection is based on the cargo drawing and route requirements.
A crane’s nominal lifting capacity alone does not establish that it can handle the loading operation. The contractor needs the weight, lifting points, tank orientation and site conditions. Vehicle arrival is coordinated with the availability of handling equipment and personnel at both locations.
Preparing new and previously used tanks
For a new tank, we confirm factory readiness, the supplied components, transport supports and manufacturer’s instructions. Insulated tanks, glass-reinforced plastic units and vessels with internal baffles or agitators require individual handling arrangements to be agreed.
For a used tank, its previous contents, shell condition, dismantling status and cleaning information matter. An empty tank is not necessarily free from product residues. Any possible residues must be disclosed, together with available preparation records, before transport is confirmed. If dangerous substances require special shipping conditions, the consignment is assessed under our dangerous goods logistics service. Acceptance depends on the actual condition and cargo classification.
Coordinating dispatch, customs and site acceptance
Oversized tank transport within Ukraine may connect dismantling at one facility with preparation of the installation area at another. The handover point is agreed in advance: an unloading area, temporary storage space or a designated location near the installation site. Dismantling, cleaning, support fabrication, crane operations and installation are included only by separate agreement.
For freight movements between Europe and Ukraine, we also coordinate the readiness of export and import documents. The product description, number of packages, weight and supplied components must match the actual shipment. Where needed, customs brokerage support covers the documentation arrangements, including shipments in which the vessel and removed fittings are listed separately.
It is useful to record the visible condition of the shell, supports and accessories before dispatch and on receipt. Cargo insurance terms are agreed with regard to the equipment value, route and declared operations. Cover for loading, unloading and other handling activities is checked separately.
Quoting for an oversized tank shipment
The cost of oversized tank transport comprises the transport charge and agreed additional work. Factors include the dimensions of the supported unit, trailer selection, vehicle positioning distance, route and required approvals. Preparing saddles, protective packaging, crane operations or waiting for the site to be ready may generate separate charges.
The quotation identifies what is included, who provides handling services and how waiting time is charged. Collection is scheduled against tank readiness, documentation and site availability. For an abnormal load, the delivery schedule is established after the route and required procedures have been assessed.
