The first 20 m of euro railway line was installed on the Chop-Uzhgorod border
The project involves the creation of 22 kilometres of railway track meeting European standards, reconstruction of artificial structures and engineering networks, as well as the introduction of modern interlocking systems on this track.
With the participation of Prime Minister Denys Shmygal and the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Yevhen Lyashchenko, the installation of the first symbolic run of the European gauge 20 metres long between the cities of Chop and Uzhgorod was held in Transcarpathia, according to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia
We are opening the process of construction of an important project - the creation of the first euro gauge from Chop to Uzhgorod. This project will improve the comfort not only of passenger traffic and redistribute passenger flow, but will also give us new logistical opportunities for freight traffic, unload road checkpoints. Uzhgorod is becoming the first regional centre that will be connected to Europe by a European-style track, - said Shmygal.
Within the framework of the project it is planned to create 22 kilometres of railway track complying with European standards, to restore artificial structures and engineering networks, as well as to introduce modern blocking systems on this track.
Shmygal emphasised the importance of this project, which will contribute to improving the comfort of passenger transport and reducing the load on road checkpoints. Ukrzaliznytsya chairman Yevhen Lyashchenko added that the project will be financed by the state budget and funding from the European Union fund.
In particular, it is planned to electrify the track and lengthen it from Uzhgorod to Lviv in the future. This is a big step in the development of transport infrastructure, which will facilitate further integration of Ukraine into European transport networks.
